"Lamb's Players Theatre and director Deborah Gilmour Smyth deserve endless credit for turning this fluffball into something more like a fine souffle. It all comes together with imagination and loopy passion!" |

"Delightful! Fluid and lively direction with a more edgy, contemporary sound. It's easy to see why this musical lasted so long!" |

"Lovely! Lamb's Players wisely keeps it simple and maintains all the magic, though they’ve jazzed up the score. There’s even a rap number, which is a hoot. The band is superb. As the young lovers, Courtney Evans and Steve Limones are charming. John Rosen and Antonio "T.J." Johnson are very vaudevillian, having one heckuva time. Robert Smyth gives a virtuoso performance, a hilarious turn, nicely complemented by Bryan Barbarin as his goofy henchman. Mauricio Mendoza looks picture-perfect as El Gallo, and Joyelle Cabato actually gets to sing a bit at the end, which is pretty good for a Mute. This is the ideal summer show: lilting, musical, light with a little undertone of darkness and with something to say.
DON'T MISS IT!" |
